What is Restylane and what are dermal fillers

Restylane was the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler in Canada it was followed by Juverderm, Teosyal , Belotero, Stylage and others.

Dermal fillers are used to reverse ageing or create harmony by restoring volume where it is lacking. It is also used to enhance features such as cheeks, lips and chin. As the face ages skin loses its elasticity & thickness, supporting fat diminishes &droops and bone structure fades. This can cause falling foreheads, heavy brows, tired and hollowed eyes, unwanted smile lines and marionette lines, loss of jaw structure and jowling, loss of lip volume & surrounding support of the nose and chin, wrinkles of the neck, décolleté and hand wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers rehydrate the skin from the inside by attracting water to the tissues. They provide structure and volume to the temples, cheeks, jaw and chin to restore proportions and give an overall harmonious look to the face. The effects can be seen immediately, are maximal at 14 days and last 9-12 months on average.

Biostimulant products such as Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) create structure and also stimulate the body’s tissues to regenerate over the next 3-6 months, the effects can last between 12-15 months. Sculptra (Poly L Lactic Acid) stimulates the body’s tissues to regenerate over a period of a few months, the effects are seen after multiple treatments over 3-6 months and last up to 2 years.

What to expect and how to get the best results

Dermal fillers are injected with a needle or canula, sometimes bruising, redness and swelling can occur.
To minimize the effects, eat a few pieces of pineapple everyday 3 days before treatment, avoid taking any aspirin or anti inflammatory such as advil or alleve 5 days before treatment. After the treatment try to sleep on your back and avoid pressure on the treated areas.
