Unwanted hair is a common problem for both men and women. Hair removal options include shaving, depilatory creams, plucking, waxing and electrolysis. These can be time-consuming, inconvenient and painful. Most of these methods offer only temporary results.
Laser hair removal gives you effective permanent hair reduction anywhere on your body including the face, legs, back, underarms or bikini area. Treatments are quick with little downtime letting you get back to your everyday activities.
Hair follicles that are in the anagen, or active growth phase respond best to treatments. Only 15% of hair follicles are in this phase, for this reason, it takes 6-8 treatments to achieve the best results.
Hair growth varies among individuals and is affected by the following factors: age, weight, metabolism, hormones, medications, and ethnic origin.

SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENTThe LightSheer diode laser is known as The Golden Standard, its effectiveness has been proven since 1999.
Anaesthetic creams contain Lidocaine (also known as Xylocaine) or Tetracaine (also known as Amethocaine). At toxic doses these medications can cause seizures or cardiac arrhythmias.
For this reason we recommend a sparing use of these agents. We also recommend applying these agents at the clinic 20-30 minutes before your treatment. You could relax and surf the web on your laptop in our complimentary Wi-Fi internet zone
The LightSheer diode is the most effective laser on the market – it remains the gold standard for laser hair removal.
Clients can expect a permanent reduction in hair growth. It is not possible to guarantee that hair will not regrow at a later date. Factors such as hormonal changes, pregnancy, weight gain and age related changes can cause regrowth or the transformation of fine vellus hair to thicker more visible hair. If regrowth occurs, those areas can be retreated by laser with good results.
Light produced by the laser at 800 nanometers is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. The laser delivers its energy in a fraction of a second. This is just enough time to destroy the hair follicle without causing damage to surrounding tissues. The damage to the follicle slows the growth of hair and most often causes permanent cessation of hair growth.
The patented cooling head of the hand piece prevents damage to the upper skin layers during the treatment.
On average it takes 6-8 treatments to achieve a 90% permanent hair reduction with a diode laser. This is significantly better than IPL as this type of treatment requires between 10 -12 treatments for a comparable result.
The laser affects hairs that are in the growth phase (anagene phase). It is estimated that at any given moment only 15-20% of hairs in a given area are in the anagene phase. It will thus take 6 treatments to effectively treat all the hairs in a chosen area.
Results vary with either type of treatment and depend on compliance with recommended treatment intervals but can also be affected by genetic and hormonal factors.
Treatment times vary from one area to another. For example underarms take 15 minutes while half legs take 45 minutes and a back takes 1 ½ hours
Compared to electrolysis, treatments are quicker and less demanding.
For the majority of people, laser treatments are not very painful. The feeling is described as being hit by an elastic band with every pulsation of the laser. Pain thresholds vary from one person to the next and from one part of the body to the next, but most often the treatment is well tolerated.
Some people prefer to apply anaesthetic creams before their treatment.
Some people prefer to use an anaesthetic agent before their treatment. The most popular choices are EMLA (Lidocaine 2, 4 or 5%) or Maxilene (Lidocaine 5%).
Laser hair removal is safe. However complications such as burns, hypo or hyper pigmentation and scarring can occur. These complications are often mild and temporary.
If you have sensitive skin, please advise our personnel.
Burns: To minimize the occurrence of burns. Avoid exposure to the sun or UV rays from tanning beds & lamp. Do not use tanning creams or sprays 1 month prior and 2 weeks after your treatments. Tanning causes skin cells to produce pigment. This pigment can absorb part of the laser’s energy destined for the hair follicle causing superficial burns and may diminish the effectiveness of the treatment.
If you are exposed to the sun, a UV source or tanning products please advise your technician so that she may reduce the power delivered by the laser.
Hypopigmentation: Is an area of the skin that appears less colored than normal skin.
Hyper pigmentation : Is an area of skin that appears darker than normal skin.
To reduce the incidence of either of these conditions avoid all irritation to the skin before and after treatments. Injured skin has a tendency to produce more or less pigment than healthy skin. Avoid exposure to the sun or UV rays, abrasions, scratching or rubbing area of skin that will be or have recently been treated. Always wear sun lotions with UV protection SPF 30 or more (especially in the summer).
These dark or light spots are mostly of an esthetic concern and are often temporary. However, resolution can take up to 12 months. If spontaneous resolution does not occur, different treatment options are available.
Our physicians will assure support and follow up should any of these complications occur.
Medical studies have shown that the most effective interval is 6 weeks (40-45 days). This coincides with the anagene (active) phase of the hair cycle.
* Hair removal using a 800-nm diode laser: comparison at different treatment intervals of 45, 60, and 90 days. – Bouzari N – Int J Dermatol – 01-JAN-2005; 44(1): 50-3
LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser) A laser is a machine capable of producing a special type of light in a specific part of the spectrum of light. The diode laser produces a light in the 800 nanometer range which specifically seeks the pigment in dark hair and does not affect surrounding tissues – this is best for hair removal.
IPL (Intense Pulse Light) works in a similar fashion. It is a type of lamp that produces a flash of light in the same range as the laser but is less powerful. IPLs are generally less effective than lasers; it takes more treatments to accomplish similar hair reduction.
Almost all skin types in men and women are candidates for laser hair removal!
Light-skinned people with Vellus hair (peach fuzz), and with light hair or light blonde hair, do not have enough pigment for the laser to be effective.
Black people have too much pigment and the laser is unable to penetrate deeply enough to be effective. The energy is absorbed at the level of the skin and can cause burns.
