Anatomy  & Growth Cycle of Hair  : Three Phases

Hair grows from its root called a follicle. The shaft is the visible part of the hair.

Anagene : Active growth phase, it is a period of active growth. This phase can last from weeks to years.

Catagene: Transitional phase, it is a period of transition and regression that precedes the télogène phase. Hair growth slows. This phase lasts 2 weeks.

Telogene: Rest, it is the  period  which precedes hair loss and the start of a new growth cycle. This phase lasts 6 weeks.

Hair growth varies among individuals and is affected by the  following factors

  • Age
  • Weight
  • Metabolism
  • Hormones
  • Medications
  • Ethnic origin.

Body Zones, Skin Types and Results

  • Almost every region of the body can be treated except eyebrows and  eyelashes as they are too close to the eye. In some cases a limited part of the brow may be done by the most experienced technician. You will be asked to wear special protection.
  • The best results are  underarms, bikini, brazilian bikini and lower leg. This is because the hairs in those areas are larger and darker than in most other parts of the body.
  • Some areas are harder to treat than others but this can vary from one person to the next. The more the hair is thin and blond the harder it is to treat. For example the upper lip , upper thighs, buttocks and arms.
  • The rule of thumb is that people with dark hair and light skin represent the best candidates for laser hair removal with a diode laser.
  • People with very dark skin are not good candidates for laser hair removal. Dark skin acts as a filter that does not allow sufficient energy to reach the hair follicle. It is ineffective in this type of patient and can cause burns.
